“A Hospedeira”, de Stephenie Meyer, autora famosa pela saga Crepúsculo, está a caminho do cinema. A protagonista acaba de ser escolhida: Saoirse Ronan (Um Olhar do Paraíso).
Na história, ambientada em um futuro próximo, a Terra foi assimilada por uma raça alienígena de parasitas benevolentes que se autodenominam “almas”. Uma dessas almas se funde a uma humana em estado terminal, Melanie Stryder, para tentar encontrar o último bolsão de terráqueos sobreviventes do planeta. A ideia é que Ronan viva tanto a alma quanto Melanie.
O roteiro e a direção ficam a cargo de Andrew Niccol (S1m0ne, O Senhor das Armas). Os direitos de adaptação foram comprados pelo produtor Nick Wechsler e pelo casal Steve e Paula Mae Schwartz. O nome de Niccol surgiu porque Meyer diz que Gattaca e O Show de Truman são dois dos seus filmes de ficção científica favoritos - e Niccol dirigiu o primeiro e escreveu o segundo.
